It certainly has been a bad few weeks for Hollywood celebrities with several deaths. Farrah Fawcett is another famous person who died recently. I was reading an article about her case and what killed her – it must have been awful.
It was an ABC News story and there was that photo above with the story. It shows Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith from Charlie’s Angels in 1977. And what are they doing? It certainly looks like a Thai wai. Any readers ever see that show and notice them doing this?

When I was an adolescent I had a major crush on Jaclyn Smith. A favorite saying in those days was ‘somebody please turn off Farrah’s faucet’.

Jaclyn was always the better of the three.

My recollection is that in the 60’s and 70’s, American television used that wai-like gesture to convey that the person making the gesture either was an Oriental or possessed a (Hollywood-ish) Zen-like understanding of the nature of life. Much like Warner Oland’s “Ah so” in the old Charlie Chan movies. In effect, the Angels are showing how enlightened they are. I seem to remember that scene, but that could just be a faulty synapse firing.
