Check out this video. I saw a story on TV about this. They were calling for volunteers to send their dogs to this Thai police dog school. I even called them and asked about the details. They said they are recruiting for three different categories, drug sniffing, bomb sniffing, and search and rescue.
And they said even I could do it as long as I could make it to the 12 weeks of training – ouch, don’t think I can make 12 weeks of training in Bangkok now that I am living up-country.
I wouldn’t be able to make it to this one anyway because my little babies aren’t old enough yet. Remember those feet pictures? That’s one of my Alsatians in one of those photos. I want to get both of them trained and this seemed pretty interesting. Of course, there is a commitment that I should go when they call me to help. That might be interesting, although I really don’t want to be searching for a bomb.

Very interesting. I wonder if the volunteer dogs get worked enough to stay trained in the more specialized skills, or if they need regular refresher courses.

That is a very good question. I must ask them about that. They said they have the training every year so my dogs will be old enough next year and I would really like to do it.
