You might remember me posting about all the trouble I have had with my Acer laptop. It hasn’t ended. My most recent experience was terribly frustrating. The Acer service center people apparently have no clue about their own products. I’m not going to go into the details but instead I want to talk about how to choose a new computer.
You see, I am wondering if I can apply a theory used by someone I used to know. He was a sales manager for a high tech company. He was really good at sales. He sold products to other high tech companies like HP and Sun and other small and startup companies that made computers and equipment. He had this theory about how you could tell if a company was going to be successful and buy a lot of his products.
He could tell as soon as he walked in the lobby because the up and coming companies had hot receptionsists, while the old, tired and declining companies had, well, old, tired and declining receptionists. From what I could tell his theory seemed accurate.
Now I am wondering if I can use the same principle to decide what computer to buy. So I am checking out all the “pretties” (booth babes) at the IT expos to see who has the hottest ones.
I think I remember seeing some Acer pretties at an expo a couple years ago. There were cute but definitely not the hottest.
Based on this theory I think that HP is a contender.

One flaw in your plan – frequently, the cuties who work the booths at shows are not regular employees, and, I suspect, rarely would a receptionist work a booth. At least, twenty years ago it was common to hire attractive women simply to attract men to the booths at a trade show.
