I was thinking it is so nice for girlfriends to buy each other lap dances. And then I saw this story about Yahoo having lap dancers at their Hack Day Taiwan event. Seems like it must have been pretty fun.
But some people are totally upset about it and saying all sorts of rough things. Like the person who wrote about here on Boing Boing. Dancers are “sex workers” and the whole thing was a “blot on technology culture”. That’s sort of weird. Seems like he and a lot of commenters who agree with him like to say things about what an insult to women this kind of thing is or how it will somehow damage young girls who want to get into tech. Well, I’m a girl and I don’t feel that way at all.
That’s another example of a kind of thinking…how do I say this…they think something dirty in their minds so it must be dirty in everybody else’s minds. For me, if I was there I would think it is kind of silly and fun. I like to see the cute girls, and seeing the reactions of geeky boys is very funny. I don’t know all the details but I bet those girls were just like the pretties that entertain at the Bangkok Motor Show and other events. They aren’t “sex workers” – isn’t that a dirty mind to think that sexy dancing and selling sex are the same thing?
Sure everybody has their own standards. But this seems like the same sort of creepy thinking like at Google Blogger where they marked my old blog as having “objectionable content”. Something dirty in those people’s minds.

I’d be all for it if I attended that event but I understand why some women – who feel that those super young hardbodies set an unattainable standard – don’t feel comfortable in that type of situation and don’t enjoy it. There’s a double standard as far as looks go and the standards are always higher for women.

Mark, I think your pretty much right on. The majority of women who don’t have the looks of these girls, are dead set agains’t anything that has a sexual undertone. Get over it. Men are always going to go for the sexy young thing over a girl with an MBA.. except for those guys who couldn’t get a date with these girls if they were holding a platinum no-limit american express card.
