I just read an article at CNNGO about pretties in Thailand. It was meant to be one of those expose articles that reveals all the dirt behind the beautiful show. If you get a chance to read it you might find it interesting.
From my first hand knowledge I would say it is pretty accurate, except that there really is a bigger distinction between the different types of “pretties”. The author, Cattleya Jaruthavee, blurs things together too much. She actually classifies coyote dancers as one type of pretty. That’s not really correct. Sure, there are some coyote dancers who work as pretties, and they have pretty dancers at some of the events that do the coyote dance thing, like in the auto sound section of the Bangkok motor show at BITEC.
But a coyote dancer normally works at a night club and a pretty is a promotional model at an event. Maybe in some cases the same person does both jobs but they are two different jobs.
Also she has this other term she calls “lounge pretties” which are the girls working at bars and karaoke rooms. Um, those aren’t pretties, those girls are regular old prostitutes (usually).
The author interviews some ladies who work as pretties. She tells a sad story about one of them:
Thirty-year old Ong has been a ‘cheer beer’ pretty for five years, at a restaurant situated in a railway station. As well as having to send money home to her parents, Ong is also responsible for most of her 12-year-old daughter, in-laws’ and husband’s expenses. Her husband, she laments, is a heavy drinker and a womanizer.
That’s a sad, and common, story. What has that got to do with pretties? Let’s see if we can figure it out by looking at the author’s little bio at the bottom of the article:

Ok, I get it. She’s looking for people who are unfairly treated and she’s going to find them one way or another. Among pretties, even? That’s a stretch from what I know first hand. There is pressure and hardship in every job and part of life. Pretties have it much, much easier than most people, just like pretty people everywhere.

It is an interesting article, but it’s not too hard to see the influences of the author’s political point of view.
You mention your first-hand knowledge of the business. Is this another of your businesses, like finding lost persons? Manager or organizer? (While I think you’re lovely, Ms. AS, you don’t sound as if you’d enjoy standing around being gawked at, so I don’t think you work as a pretty. Their loss.) Is this common in all the major cities?

I used to be involved with that business back when I was also working for TV show producers. Things have changed but not that much. It was and still is just like casting for shows. There are agencies that specialize in it. I did a couple of posts on the old blog about it. I will find them and move them over here.

You can get in the bigtime just by looking pretty.
Target workers are pretty girls with model potential.
Target market for this kind of business are obviously males in their twenties and up.. people that are willing to pay cash for anything pretty girls are involved in…. except maybe makeup/fashion magazines.

Four P’s of Marketing are product, place, price, and promotion. Hiring pretties or coyote dancers lies in the promotional section. You cannot gain market share without growth. And you cannot gain that growth without promotion.
I guess the best way to get your product out there is to have it advertised with smokin’ hot chicks.

Yes, and those “smokin’ hot chicks” have it so much easier than other people. So when writers like this try to find some hardship in their jobs it loses credibility.

Promoting stuff in Thailand has only one goal and its to promote. Not to sidetrack into the personal lives of these people. But I read the article and its quite interesting.
I can’t believe that some of these girls are tolerating womanizers. Behind that pretty smile is a sad beauty.

Lots of girls tolerate womanizers. Lots of guys have cheating wives. Pretties have a lot more choices and probably run around a lot more because of it. I would say they are much less likely to be victims.

Almost every bar girls tolerates womanizers. Well, it’s my personal opinion though.

That sort of makes sense with bar girls since they see womanizers all day long they think every man is like that so what can they do but accept it or choose a girl as their partner…hey that’s an idea.

Clearly the author of the article about “pretties” has some personal issues with men. Also,why is she portraying that promotion hiring pretty models as a negative thing.She never really explains the ” sad story” behind the pretty. What sad story? It’s just a job.Pointless article.Of course ,we never use pretty ladies in America too sell anything…yeah right

I am not sure what this is about.
They are all the same depending on affordability.
I am smart enough not to even try to pick up the car girl model and I would not presuppose she is a coyote dancer.
My GF’s sister is a professional college educated coyote dancer and car model but of course and a stone hard whore.
No I do not go there at the risk of bad blood in the family although I may change my mind in the future.
My experience beyond that does confirm that coyote dancers are girls that are paid to dance, understand dance, and are whores no different than any girl leaning up against a streetlight, with a minor distinction that they love dance.
I find sweaty coyote dancers (and I am n not talking go-go girls) to be quite erotic and I am sure most of them are pretty enough and are anyone’s models for any reason.
I will be there next week and I will look into this again if I can get the GF drunk enough to go to sleep.
