You know this calendar, Pacific USA. It gets released each year with some very nice photos of Asian hotties. I just saw that there is a 20% off coupon if you purchase by Friday October 30. Maybe pick up a holiday gift for someone (maybe yourself!). The coupon code is AF1009FS2. Of course you can use that same coupon code for any purchase, not just the Pacific USA calendar, although that would be my choice

Hello AS, I thought you would get a kick out of this.. I just got it off a news flash from a farang news site:
Annual transvestite pageant wows Thailand
The finals of the 2009 Miss International Queen competition, an annual beauty pageant for transvestites and transsexuals, reached a colourful and spectacular climax in Thailand on Saturday.
The annual event is fashioned after the Miss World beauty pageant; with the notable exception that each of the contestants has to have been born male.
At the end of an evening of lavish costumes and carefully choreographed routines, Japanese transsexual Haruna Ai was crowned “Miss International Queen 2009.”
Ai received US$10 000, a trophy and a crown and said she was “very very happy. I love Thailand. Thank you very much.”
Thailand, a predominantly Buddhist country, is considered to be tolerant of homosexuals, transvestites and transsexuals.
The pageant is held to promote tourism and also the rights of gay and transgender people.
only in Thailand …

It seems strange that stories about different behavior in Thailand always say something about it’s because it is a Buddhist country. Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia are Buddhist, so is much of China, Korea and Japan. Is everything different in those countries explained by the religion? Maybe it is more about culture of the country and not religion.
The Dhamma is quite clear about the karmic results of homosexual behavior – the rebirth is not going to be in a good condition. But everybody makes their own karma so I guess it is easy to be tolerant if you understand that.

I knew you were going to ask me. I helped with some translation work for some Dhamma books some time ago and remember seeing this. But I don’t have a reference I can give you. I don’t even know the titles of the books that were published.
