Sonia Couling out classes Jessica Simpson

Not Jessica Simpson

I saw that Sonia Couling was invited to host Jessica Simpson in Thailand for an episode of her The Price of Beauty show. From the accounts of the show I guess there was a pretty obvious difference in class between the two.

Jessica dry heaves in the market when she sees what some of the locals are eating. I bet many of those Thai people would have to suppress a heave seeing what Jessica eats.

Sonia Couling

And she is so disrespectful to a monk, laughing during meditation. There is a small video clip of that scene here. Jessica must be filled with garbage inside, can’t stand to sit still and look inside herself.

Here’s a quote from her while she was getting a massage, “I thought that Thai massages had happy endings. I was just wondering where mine was.” You know, traditional Thai massage is taught in temples, like the famous massage school at Wat Po. Jessica belongs in the sex zones, not with decent Thai people. She is an example of why most Thai people have a low opinion of western women.

BTW, do my dear readers think Jessica is hot? Because I sure don’t, and that is just looking at her photos not even considering her complete lack of charm. That’s why I don’t include any photos of her. She has that big meaty look, like she would play rugby, not pretty.

Reading some blogs about the show and Jessica it seems like a lot of Americans are just as clueless and classless, although some of the negative comments about Jessica are pretty rude and funny, like over here. There was something about farting in the show?

If it means anything, you have my apologies for Ms. Simpson’s disgraceful behavior.

Ms. Couling is gorgeous. In these shots, she is much more tan than most of the Thai models you post – does that impact her popularity? You’ve mentioned that fair skin is considered more attractive amongst most Thais.

BTW, I just caught a snippet of an interview with Ms. Simpson on television – not one of our more astute public figures.

  2. AsianSweetheart Says:

I think Sonia would do tan when they wanted that look. But I think she does try to stay out of the sun. I saw her on TV a couple months ago and she is still gorgeous and very fair skin.

  3. marauder Says:

The very young Jessica Simpson was gorgeous, if already not exactly the classiest lady in the world. But she’s gone to hell in a handbasket the past couple of years. Apologies for those of my fellow Americans who don’t take the time to learn how to be respectful in other countries.

I got a Thai massage at Wat Pho from one of the students. It was fantastic.

  4. PinkSamantha Says:

Most of Thai people? With all due respect to good and well-mannered Western people, most of us Asian people have low opinion of Western people and hate them, especially in East Asia like South Korea or Japan and South East Asia.

I’m into Thai women (sorry for my sexual orientation) and Asian women, but I’m okay dating with Western women too. I dated a few, but fortunately I never dated anyone like Jessica Simpson.

Jessica is hot? I don’t like her. But I agree with John and Marauder, she was a charming woman in her young age, but today she’s just a woman with trashy behavior.

Look what she did during meditation. Was there anything funny about spiritual chores? And Thai massage? I’m always got relaxed and felt so comfy after every massages, and it was a happy ending for me. Maybe her kind of happy endings is the one that is getting “massaged” in bed (notice the quotes). Or her body was too tired so the only way she could get a happy ending is when she was getting massaged by a bulldozer.

But the show made me chuckled. I love it when Sonia was invited to Jessica’s show. The Price of Beauty? Yes, Jessica wanted to show to people that the price of beauty is expensive but worth every Dollar or Bath you spend. If you can afford the price, you will become classy like the guest Sonia Couling. If you refuse to pay the price and just want to look pretty without doing anything good, you will become cheapy like the host Jessica Simpson. I think I like that idea of the show, hee hee. XD

Moreover, people like Jessica should be put out of the screen. Their appearance send the wrong message about Western people to us Asian people, and it makes most of us think that Western people always have bad manner.

I have seen the show here in the US. The best part for me is where she is totally perplexed with a tuk-tuk. What do you expect? This show is on VH-1. I remember one of her first television appearances, on MTV over ten years ago, before she was “THE Jessica Simpson.” She was a cute blond with a great body. And, um, that is about it. She may not be charming but certain aspects of her were charming in the Dukes of Hazzard movie. I would not defend her, but I would say it is representative of a certain North-American / Western-centric perspective and I don’t see how this show is any different than other reality shows like Survivor, Amazing Race, Top Model etc. where clueless average Americans trample all over countries around the world and their cultures. Thousands (millions?) come every year to Thailand, from other countries too. They are not members of the diplomatic corps or top executives. But yes, Sonia is sexier and classier, for me at least.

The show is not entirely bad, there are plenty of good-hearted parts, see the part with Panya with the skin disorder, and the bug vendor was laughing good-naturedly in the parting shot. If you want a good travel show with ‘classy’ Americans, watch the Lonely Planet series or Travel, Discovery or Food networks. There are plenty of intelligent good shows (and good Americans) too.

  6. Al Says:

Asian people generally have a bad opinion regarding us Americans.
    Feelings mutual.

  7. PinkSamantha Says:

Did you hear what Jessica said about the elephant head? Was it really necessary? I mean she’s a woman, right? I don’t know what happened if it was a man who said something like that, but what Jessica did just convinced Asian people who have low opinion of Western women to have even lower opinion of them. The point was that she really gave Western people a bad image. Read what those Thai forum members posted and how they bashed Jessica. It’s lucky if they just bash Jessica. What if because of this, they also bash well-mannered Westerners who actually never done anything like Jessica did? This has to stop, otherwise other Western people who are well-mannered will get the same low opinion from most Asian people. X(

And the Panya part? It was Panya that made audiences feeling sympathy, not Jessica. Remember that.

Reality shows are all the same, they are reality shows. But the idea and concept of the show are what make them different one to another. Survivor, Amazing Race and Top Model don’t make fun of a country’s culture. They’re about competition.

Oh well, I’m getting bored already with this Jessica Simpson issue. Besides, the reason why I wanted to watch that show was solely because of Sonia herself (it’s been a while since the last time I saw Sonia made appearance, hee hee). Who cares of Jessica anyway… ;)

Sorry if I sounded like I was really trying to bash Jessica Simpson. I have few Americans, Europeans and Australians friends and they all are well-mannered. It makes me sad whenever Asian people watch a Westerner make fun of Asian culture and getting recorded when saying something impolite, they start blaming all Western people as if all of them are ill-mannered.

  8. Jocko Says:

Goodness, filled with hate and arrogant much about the superior of your culture over Western culture? Take a chill pill. She is ignorant about Thai culture, that is all. Just as many Thais who visit the U.S. would be ignorant about U.S. culture. But I am not going to try to insult some Thai people and call them stupid and ugly just because they’re ignorant if they come here. I will just understand that they are ignorant, not stupid. Ignorance just means you don’t know something, and that’s understandable if you have never been to a certain country. Ya, Jessica Simpson is not the shining light of America with regards to cultural understanding and brightness, but she’s not as horrible and ugly as you would like to make her. We need a little more understanding and perspective, I think.

This post and the comments from Pink Samantha (Pink Samantha you had many good things to say, too) make me think that Asians are arrogant, xenophobic and racist in general to Western people. Am I wrong? You have to explain yourself, I think.

I understand being upset about someone who you think is disrespectful, but then to throw petty insults because of it does not show understanding, it shows arrogance and hate. A little more understanding of reality, please? Most of the world is ignorant about Thai culture, so you need to realize that. U.S. has a different culture that’s more open and keen on expression, not reservation.

  9. Jocko Says:

Also, I just watched the clip. As I said Jessica is not a great ambassador or representative of the USA, but she also admits that she was not good to laugh. When people are wrong and know it, they can be forgiven rather than told they are full of garbage and not pretty. It’s a little immature, really.

  10. Mark Says:

The ugly American. It makes me want to leave the country. Where I live, I have yet to hear anyone say anything good about any other culture except “White American culture”. I constantly hear people denigrating Blacks and Latinos and I don’t doubt that they would say similar things about Asians.

  11. AsianSweetheart Says:

I hear people talk bad about other cultures, but I think it is pretty rare that they go to another culture and act insulting and disrespectful right to their faces. Most westerners I see in Thailand seem quite polite (other than the thing about wearing revealing clothing in wrong places).

  12. PinkSamantha Says:

    @Jocko

Mark was right. Please examine this line more carefully:

“Goodness, filled with hate and arrogant much about the superior of your culture over Western culture?”

Hello there? It was you who said that us Asians have culture more superior than Western one. I didn’t say anything like that, neither did AS or anyone else here. =p So hee hee, you can save the chill pill just for yourself, because I think you were the only one who got mad here. Sorry, but I only need a new BlackBerry and some new pairs of high heels. =p

“Just as many Thais who visit the U.S. would be ignorant about U.S. culture.”

I don’t get it. X( What did you expect those Thai to do? What part of US culture did they ignore? I know bowing and greeting people with praying gesture were not part of US culture, but that doesn’t mean those Thai people shouldn’t do that when they want to show respect to others just because you don’t do that. And what I know is that saying impolite words (like a part of genitalia) was not a part of any culture, even US culture. Or… was I wrong? Were you trying to say it was understandable for Jessica to spoke such word and just being ignorant because it was her culture, and we Asians should be okay with that just like you were okay with those Thai you called ignorant? =p

“Most of the world is ignorant about Thai culture, so you need to realize that. U.S. has a different culture that’s more open and keen on expression, not reservation.”

This is the first time I hear something like that. Uh, Mark? Are you there? Can you talk to him please? He accused us Asians as people who think that our culture is more superior than Western culture, but what was he said in the end? And what about me and AS and other Thai expressing our feeling about Jessica? Shouldn’t he suppose to be open and keen about the way we express our feeling towards Jessica?

Yoo-hoo, Jocko! Can you spell “hypocrite”? =p XD
And please, you’re not the representative of US culture. John, Al and others are. =p

Jessica doesn’t need to practice Thai culture or any Asian cultures in her daily life (she wasn’t an Asian woman =p), but at least she could try to improve her character or pick her words carefully or learn how to behave. Everybody will agree that people will like her more if she can do that. Please, no need to say anything about any part of genitalia, especially men’s one! She’s a woman! X(

It was my personal opinion about how bad Jessica was on that show, and this post was AS’ personal opinion too. All of my friends, men or women, said the same; they were okay with any Western person (so hee hee, you were wrong about us Asians are racist or whatever you accused us to be =p), but they dislike Jessica’s character on that show. Even the link AS put on her post was talking the same issue about Jessica: her behavior. And it was Western board, not Asian. And I wasn’t the only one who criticized Jessica. There are many many Thai in Thai forums posted critics about Jessica. And sorry to disappoint you, it wasn’t about your culture. =p

Seriously, if you couldn’t get the point I was talking about then blame nobody but yourself. A female host should never said anything about men’s genitalia in front of camera, especially if the show used the word “beauty”. In short, never used anyone who can’t represent a culture in good and admirable ways, unless that culture is really that bad. Besides, didn’t you think a person like Tyra Banks would be an ideal host? She’s not a newbie to a thing called “beauty” (she was a producer of True Beauty). Not to mention she’s a good representative of Western women too.

  13. AsianSweetheart Says:

PS, that sure was a long rant. I agree with you except I had to admit that sometimes I do look down on western people and I have to stop and think and tell myself not to do that when it is about difference of culture. It’s usually western women, maybe I’m not so tolerant of them or maybe it is just my personal experience about western men usually seem more polite when I see them in Thailand. It isn’t everybody and mostly it is about culture difference so I shouldn’t do it. But there are some people who deserve to be looked down on and Jessica is one of them.

  14. Mark Says:

““Most of the world is ignorant about Thai culture, so you need to realize that. U.S. has a different culture that’s more open and keen on expression, not reservation.”

This is the first time I hear something like that. Uh, Mark? Are you there? Can you talk to him please?”

Actually, you did just fine PinkSamantha! I’m not sure what the degree of cultural ignorance is throughout the rest of the world, but American ignorance and arrogance towards other cultures is famous like none other. I used to work in Indonesia, and when I tell that to people here, I first have to explain to them where Indonesia is… I mean… fourth largest country in the world???? Helllooo!!!!!

  15. AsianSweetheart Says:

I must say I am very much embarrassed of Thai people’s knowledge of the world. For most Thai people a westerner is a “farang” and they speak “phaasaa farang” – as far as they know all westerners speak the same language.

  16. Mark Says:

I’m more embarrassed by American arrogance. Ignorance is a lot more forgivable than arrogance.

  17. Julienne Tirona Says:

The song “these boots were made for walking” was sung before by Nancy Sinatra, Jessica Simpson absolutely has a firmer looking body than nancys and she made her song a lot more marvelous sounding.
