So this is what Poo has been doing

Cover Volume Poo Priya

When I first saw Poo Priya on the cover of Volume several years ago I thought she was so hot. She appeared in a few movies, lakorn and photo sets since then but lately all I have seen of her is some commercials she has been in. So what has she been doing?

I didn’t know this but I guess she is quite jao choo (playboy/girl) and according to Dirtii Laundry she has the nickname of The Mistress with 100 Husbands. It sounds kind of awkward in English, and actually it doesn’t work because “mistress” means you are the fling of a married man. In Poo’s case she just has a long string of boyfriends that she changes very often. They aren’t married so she really isn’t a mistress. Anyway, that’s what she has been busy doing lately, running around with many different men all over Thailand and Europe. I like the photos M magazine did a while ago. Whatever happened to that magazine?

Wow – what a beautiful face! I actually prefer the boxing photo – it’s colorful, but the elements work together nicely, IMO. The bracelets in the “M” picture are too distracting, jarring. Should have gotten rid of the white and red ones, IMO.

I assume “Poo” is a nickname/term of endearment? A bit awkward as a name if she aspires to English or American moviedom. Still, a very beautiful young woman.

Poo is a popular nickname, means crab. Unfortunate English spelling, yes.

Yes, she is Hot… she don’t look crabby to me.. :-)
I don’t like Thai crab, but in her case I would change my mind…

    I’ll take both.
P.S. Mistress is a kept companion, marriage not necessary!

  5. AsianSweetheart Says:

Oh, thanks for that. I thought it was only when the man was married that the girl was called a mistress.

“Crab” is a popular nickname? Then it must have some favorable associations in Thailand that are different than in American culture. Here, it’s somewhere between a mild criticism to an insult to call someone a crab. Is it because they’re tasty? Or are crabs so highly prized in Thailand? They do have an unusual beauty, but I doubt that’s why it became a popular nickname.
Here, you might refer to a petulant child as a crab, but to call an adult a crab would generally be considered unflattering.

It’s just another one of those popular animal nicknames, like Plaa (fish) and Nok (bird). Those nicknames are popular because they are things that people see in every day life. Lots of crabs lots of in the rice fields, “poo naa”.

I took the time to read a bit about Thai culture (I know, ugly American…mea culpa), and the site mentioned that Thais frequently use/give nicknames that are ordinary, common animals – like you say – possibly to show the interconnectedness of everything. In that sense, “Poo” makes sense – lovely practice, actually.

  9. AsianSweetheart Says:

There is another reason, too. Superstitious people will sometimes give their babies ugly nicknames because they want to be sure that ghosts aren’t attracted to them. I think it isn’t so common anymore except up-country because all the kids now how cute and silly nicknames.

  10. John Says:

YES – I read that, too. Almost – the site said something like “common nicknames so that they don’t stand out or seem prideful.” I’ll bet the ghost superstition is more the origin.
